I doubt there’s a more joyous and exciting
moment in life to celebrate than new
birth. I’ve enjoyed this joyous celebration
in the past weeks as Ceinwyn gave birth to
a beautiful baby girl. Amidst all of our joy,
thankfulness to God for her safe arrival,
and enjoying of the moment as a couple, a
strong desire stirred within me. I had an
overwhelming desire to share our
wondrous news with family and friends. I
believe we see this same fatherly desire to
tell others about the good news of new
birth when Jesus was born. Unlike me,
Joseph wasn’t able to ring round and send
text messages on his mobile phone. But
God the Father was able to share this
news, and forget about mobile phones,
He chose a much more exciting way to tell
people.
As shepherds watched their
flocks at night a messenger from God (an
angel) appeared bringing good news of
great joy. That day in the city of David, a
Saviour had been born for them.
Suddenly in the sky there appeared a
multitude of heavenly hosts singing
praises to God saying ‘Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace among men
with whom He is pleased.’ What a way to
herald the news of your son’s birth! This
Christmas, I pray the overwhelming joy of
new birth resonates within you. I pray
that the joy of God stirs within you an
excitement to share the news of Jesus’
birth with others. Whilst every birth is a
blessing from God, it was only Jesus’ birth
that brought the blessings of salvation.
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid: for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11)
