Help when we need it
Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 8:22AM Psalm 122:1-3 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber
It’s 3am and my boy is awake again. Something has upset him, is it teeth, is it a bad dream, is he too hot, too cold, is it his nappy…if only he could tell me then I could fix the situation and get back to sleep! Do you ever feel like that?
In the wee, cold hours of the morning it is easy for me to feel alone and not up to the task of being a mum. I am weak and tired, fearing that my son will not go back to sleep. However, it is then that I can remember that I am not alone. If I will ‘lift my eyes’ I will know that the Lord is with me. I love the scripture above ‘He who keeps you will not slumber’. Even when it feels like the whole world is asleep God will not go to sleep on me. He is always there loving and guiding me. If I stop for a second I will know that He will help me to do the same for my son.
God has promised that he will never leave us or forsake us. Therefore in the cold of night we can take comfort knowing that He can be our helper, I will not fear. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
