My little boy is now one. I am learning that he has his own will. He loves to explore, cupboards, drawers, cables and switches. It seems that he is most curious about what we have said ‘no’ to. I guess it’s the same way with all of us.
At times I can feel a little exasperated at the constant requirement to watch and train my son. This often means for me that I can’t finish what I’m reading or go out when I want to. It’s a huge change to now be responsible for another’s life.
Having a child is a responsibility and he requires more than just food and clothing. He also needs love, care, attention and discipline. The bible says that if ‘you train a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it’. It is my hope that my husband and I can train our little man to hear and obey our direction so that he will be safe and secure. My greater hope though is that he will grow to know God and who God created him to be.
Parenting is a full time job. It doesn’t come with a manual of what to do but it is our responsible to search out the best way to raise our children. I believe I can only do this with God’s direction and counsel. I am thankful that my heavenly father is patient with me; I hope I can be the same way with my son
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
