Seasons

A few days ago my three year old little boy decided he’d have a go at pushing the boundaries. It seemed that he’d decided that everything he’d been told not to he would do. By the end of it we were wondering if he was ever going to learn. I’ve been considering the perseverance that is required to be a parent but then thought of the season. In the difficult times of parenting I have often been reminded that this is a short season that won’t last forever. The sense I’m having at the moment though is that there is much for my children to learn in this short season and much that is required of me to train them. The Bible tells us that ‘there is an appointed time for everything’. (Ecc 3:1)
The hope we have for our children is the same for us; that we would be trained (pruned) in each season so our lives will bear more fruit of God’s life. Now is the time to prepare the ground of our son’s heart so that he can be teachable in the years to come. As a mum this means that I need to know the time to silent and the time to speak. As parents, my husband and I need to be clear together about the why and how we are training, we need to make sure that we are in the right place at the right time to train. Throughout each day there are many opportunities to train my children and I need to make sure that I utilise each one. My consistency, whether we are home or not, is crucial if our children are to know their boundaries and be secured by them.

John 15:1-2 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
