Know God as He Knows You

‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.’ (Rev 3:20-22 NASB)

It’s not so much that God wants to know you, but rather He wants you to know Him. God already knows you fully and completely, having shaped you in your mother’s womb. An example of God’s knowing of us is when He told the prophet Jeremiah that he had been known by God before he was even formed in his mother’s womb. The same is true for us. God’s knowing of us is full and complete. His desire is that throughout the course of our life we would come to know Him. The heart of Jesus in these verses above is all about His desire for us to know Him. It’s about our coming into relationship with Him. Jesus describes His action of ‘us finding and then knowing Him’ as; He stands at the door of our heart knocking, desiring to dine with us. The response on our part is clear. We need to firstly hear His voice (His knocking) and secondly respond to what we hear by opening the door of our heart to Him. Having heard His knocking and His voice and having opened ourselves up to Him we then find that He enters our heart bringing gifts. Of great joy for us is the realisation that in wanting to dine with us, He has brought the meal. Not just any meal, but He invites us to eat with Him and partake of (receive) His very life. Romans 6:23 tells us that the free gift of God (given to all who would believe – who hear and open the door) is eternal life (God’s life) in Jesus. Jesus has a dinner table with a seat reserved for everyone one of us. On the menu, is the life changing gift of His life. Let’s hear His voice, open the door and enjoy the life and fellowship He offers.
