I am making all things new
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” (Rev 21:5 NASB)
Almost fortnightly, for the past 10 years I’ve driven over Lake Eildon at Bonnie Doon, on my way to Melbourne, and seen no water. As each season passed, and seeing nothing change, I was heard to say on many occasions ‘it will never fill again!’ Amazingly, over the past 18-24 months, the lake has started to fill. As I’ve seen each ‘new high point’ I’ve been amazed but still thought ‘that’s as high as it will go’. Incredibly, in a trip to Melbourne several months before Christmas, I saw the lake 100% full! If someone had told me 2 years ago that in late 2011 the lake would be full, I’d have struggled to believe them. Why? Because I’d watched the lake for so many years. I’d seen winters pass full of potential for rain, but nothing change. After years of seeing this, I’d come to continue to expect more of the same. The same occurs in our lives. In many situations we’ve become so used to seeing the same thing year after year that we now find ourselves unable to believe something new could come. We’re unable to believe enough rain would come ‘to fill the lake’. I believe in this season the words of Jesus need to be heard afresh; ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ God is coming to do that which we think is impossible. Don’t be bound by the assumptions, fear and unbelief of the past. Instead, as we heard last week, expect to be amazed.
