Expect To Be Amazed

How quickly another year has passed and with it the many opportunities that the Lord has presented to us within that year. Did we hear the Lord speaking to us a word of opportunity? Did we make the most of those opportunities? Did we give them the full attention they deserved? Did we even realize the opportunity when it presented itself? Whatever, we now have before us the opportunity of a new year with all its possibilities, some known but many unknown. I believe the Lord has in store for us both personally and collectively some amazing opportunities. But will we recognize them and seize them when they present themselves?

Nothing is impossible with God

“For nothing will be impossible with God. And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word”. (Luke 1:37-38)

We would all agree, based on the depth of information given, that the birth of Jesus Christ was a great miracle. It took place without Mary having had relations with any man. How did this miracle come about? God in His wisdom decreed to do it in a way which included the participation of mankind. By divine appointment, Mary participated in the greatest miracle of all; God becoming flesh, Immanuel, God with us.

Know God as He Knows You

‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.’ (Rev 3:20-22 NASB)

It’s not so much that God wants to know you, but rather He wants you to know Him. God already knows you fully and completely, having shaped you in your mother’s womb. An example of God’s knowing of us is when He told the prophet Jeremiah that he had been known by God before he was even formed in his mother’s womb.

Give Thanks

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. (Colossians 3:15-17)

One of the things that stands out to me in these verses is the expression of ‘thankfulness’. “Be thankful, singing with thankfulness and giving thanks”, are all stated. When the apostle Paul keeps repeating this then I think the Holy Spirit is trying to get something through to us.

Devoted to Christ

“But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:3)

‘The simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.’ A more concise statement on the nature of Christianity you could not get. A Christian is one who is devoted to Christ. When you expand that out it also means that a Christian is one who is devoted to what Christ is devoted to. Why is it that we make it more complex than that?
